the 69 f100 had a brand new 302 crate engine with new edelbroc 1405 carb, intake, feul pump, alt, power steering pump and about everything else under the hood. problem is,i cant get the carb right no matter what i try. always seems to be rich on the bottom and lean towards the top. ive learned i truelly hate edelbrocs. if it were a holley,id of had it right in 10 minutes.i spent the $80 for the jet and metering rod kit but no luck getting it just right.are there any edelbroc gurus here that can help me out or should i do what i wanted to do a long time ago, switch to a holley and use the edelbroc as a wheel chock?the 302 has a mild cam but i have no idea what flavor

IMO edelbrock is easier to tune than a holley and is a better carb but thats my opinion. I can tune a edelbrock but I cant tunafish.

ive heard alot of people say that but ive always had great luck with holleys. i tune this thing and it runs great, a week or so later (since i dont drive it often) i take it for a drive and it runs like crap. may even be a month before it starts screwing up.might have to try a little silicon on the screws.if that dont work its getting a holley.

Bet ya 500 bucks its not the carb. They always get blamed for other stuff, your tuning the carb and covering up the real problem then it gets worse and youll retune the carb.

bet you a new holley that it is the carb. when it starts screwing up it almost has raw gas running out the tailpipes lol.im telling you,it smells like you have your head stuck in a gas can.readjust and its fine for a while.

Then the floats stickin or the needle aint seatin, ERRR, prolly the silicone you slathered on it. If thats the case its still not a carb issue, its a JR issue :)

ifn you woulda paid attention,i said i was going to try a little silocone on the screws.(on the outside, just a dab to keep things from moveing) i havent done it yet.i adjusted it the other day after takeing the adjustment screws out and stretching the springs a little to see if that help.it acts like the screws are moveing on their own.not a float issue and the needle at least were sealing good.ive already checked all that and cleaned it because it sat alot before i bought it.

In my experience with Edelbrocks, once they are 'tuned' they tend to stay that way. When I was running a Holley, I was messing with it constantly. I did lose some high end power by switching carbs though.
What are you running for a fuel filter? I have noticed that Edelbrock/Carter AFB carbs are EXTREMELY sensitive to dirt getting in them. I use a paper canister type filter like a NAPA 3033.

ive got 2 on it,a canister type and a see through.did that just because its still running on the original tank and if it would plug up on the road it would be an easy fix to remove the first one in line.im getting ready to go out and mess with it some today but sometimes it sets for up too 2 weeks without being started.ill tune it and itll run like a champ then a few weeks later even if it has been run itll start messing up again.dont think its a timeing issue, ive played with the timeing and when i got it right i tightened it down and havent messed with it
