I'm looking for a 78-79 Crew in good to great shape. I don't want a rust bucket. 4wd prefered but will look at 2wd's. Let me know what you got.

I don't see a supercab in there anywhere:confused:
"mandojake" has his project for sale. he is on the 61-79fordcrewcabs yahoo group and is a member on oldfordcrewcabs.com but he has never posted there..
I can dig up a phone number for you if you are interested.. he had some other stuff to and his prices seem fair. the cab he was using was off an F600 crewcab. If it was a 67-72 crew I wouldn't tell you about it:D
cheers James
edit: if you need a super I could help you out.

Wow is that thing shot. That roof rust is more than I want to tackle Adam. It would make a decent parts truck tho.

I've been on that board at Yahoo before James, I'll go see if I can find it.
Edit: found it.

Hey Scott:
he posted it just yesterday on that yahoo group, he was selling the F600 cab, a 78 "snowfighter" F250 chassis, and many other parts. :) I think he realized how much work it would be to put the medium duty cab onto a light duty chassis.
That cab would probably work better on a newer Fseries medium chassis with a 3126 cat or an ISB cummins. too bad the older mediums didn't have tilt front ends.
cheers James
edit:
Wow that roof is pretty bad, virginia beach is on the atlantic coast?
my wife was looking over my shoulder, laughed and said "you wouldn't even need a can opener"
then she forbid me from making a bid on it..............D'oh

Could you imagine driving that down the road! It would probably peel open from the windshield back.
It would be a major pain swapping out the F-600 cab to a pickup frame assembly?

Peel open and increase the preasure against the windshield, probably push down and decapitate you. Hey it could be one of those perfect ;)trucks to try out the 80-97 crewroof ribbed for your driving pleasure.
those pics make my parts cab look like a nice driver, its only got a few holes in the sides of the roof, and they are pen refill size.
times are tough you may just find a real beauty for a good price.
NM/AZ/&west TX are the best locations from what I've seen over the years. and I have been hoarding for a few years now:D
cheers to good crew hunting

I've actually been thinking about taking a load to Tx in the big truck and loading my flatbed at the JY's to come home. I'm sure I could find one in a JY better than most that are in the northern states.

Words of wisdom (and experience?){>)
Scott: if you go be carefull along the gulf coast, I saw some pretty nice looking stuff there with rotted roofs filled with bung>>>>faded paint, hard to see at first look.
My nice cab came from Silvercity NM high and dry!!!!

In fact it should be a 4wd with a shortbed. I don't believe they made a long bed crew 4x4.

I was thinking for 78 you could only get the 4x4 crew as a F250 in a short bed, though in 79 the F350 was an 8' bed and the F250 was a 6' bed.

I guess I am not using the right keywords for the Craigslist search.
That blue 2wd in OK is in pretty nice shape and could easily be converted to a 4wd. I'd like to have a shortbed more than the longbed.

So was it a 4x4?
To clear up confusion;
F-250 Crew cabs only come with the short bed, and can be either 2wd or 4x4.
F-350 Crew cabs only come with the long bed or chassis-cab, and 2wd only.

The following is accurate before 1979 when Ford produced the F350 with 4x4 in a crew-cab version.

No such thing.
1979 was the first year for the F350 4wd; only available in Regular or Supercab.

Are you sure?
I have seen an F350 supercab longbed 4x4, :o but never an F350 crewcab 4x4 long or shortbed pre 1980.
where did you find that info?

Did the four door 4 wheel drives have the dana 60 under the front? I'm going to look at one today. I think its a 78 or 79.
Ranger429
02-10-2009, 03:44 PM
They could have. It could of been ordered with a 60 up front. Look for ball joints (D44) or kingpins (D60).
As of right now my crewcab search is temporarily on hold. My extra funds went towards the purchase of a new Yukon Denali for the wife so we are picking that up tonite. A special thanks to Jason for searching out all those crews to!
