I am trying to finish up the wiring on my 76 F-250 4X4.
I have a couple of wires I am completely lost on.
This picture shows the wire in question. It comes from my fuel tank selector switch next to my heat/AC controls. I can't figure out where this should go.

Here is the orange wire (left of the pink connector) that comes from my front fuel tank sending unit. Note: I spliced these wire together because i thought they went together based on gauge and color. If my other orange wire is supose to hook up to the sending unit, what does the other orange wire hook up to? Notice, below the factory connection, the wire is green/red.

Blue, thanks for your help. I have looked at them probably a million times trying to figure this thing out. I don't find the fuel selector switch on those diagrams unless I am missing something....

Ya, that's my problem. None of the books or diagrams even show the switch. I was hoping someone had their inst. cluster out and could chase the wire and tell me where it ties in.
Bout ready to sell this hunk of *#$@! Anybody want to buy a 428 maybe even a CJ??? This will definitely be my last wiring job/vehicle.
Thanks again Blue.

Any time man. Before you give up try to PM MIL1ION (http://www.7879blueovalbronco.com/forums/member.php?u=38)
He has a Uber list of diagrams.

Hey txfour, are you running 2 or 3 tanks? Manual or electric tank switching valve? Might make a difference, or not, but...
According to my Hayne's book (sometimes inconsistent, but a good starting point):
Green w/red wire is from an in-cab OR an aft fuel tank sender (Main) to the switch.
Green wire (if present) is from a mid-ship tank sender, if so equipped (Aux).
Brown w/white wire goes to an electric solenoid tank switch valve (if so equipped).
Orange wires can be:
1) Power from fuse "F-3" to the switch, OR
2)The signal from the switch to the gauge.
I would pull both the red bullet connector and the larger plastic connector apart and measure both sides of each to see if one has power with the key on.
The one with power comes from the fuse box to the switch.
Another one comes from the gauge to the switch
I'm not familiar enough to tell you which is which, based on their connectors.
Sounds like you know that one already comes from the switch, but you'll have to determine if that's power or gauge and which end of the other one goes to the switch. So it's a matter of tracing the other ends.
The wiring for the '75/'76 years is a bit convoluted in the book. Some of the other years are easier to read, so if none of what you find makes sense, I can look through the '74 diagrams to see if it can add any clarity.

ps: I had to edit right after I sent this to clear up some bits about how many Orange wires there should be, so re-read it if you were only going by an e-mail.

1ton,
Thanks.
I may need to clarify a little more.
1st, I have all the wires correctly spliced now other than three orange ones.
1 coming from the selector switch
1 coming from the behind seat tank - sending unit
1 tied in to the green/red wire
Does the one on the tank selector switch go to the sending unit?

Good news, good news, good news...
Just bought a 78 with complete engine tranny and wiring for 100 bucks that has the same factory equipment as mine. It will be delivered in about an hour...

Sweet,
Do us a favor and write up a simple tech article on those wires and what they do and I will stickie the post in tech section.

Will do. It ain't fair for anyone to have to suffer this kind of hell. I can guarantee you this will be the last project i ever buy that needs wiring. Too much stress and headache. If I didn't like this truck so much i would have given up on her long ago.
