I have a bad bearing on the front output shaft of my np205.

Is it possible to change this while it is in the truck?

Just looking for a little input, before I try to do a weekend job in a couple hours. I have been looking at the write up by Kevin @ http://www.okcnetworks.com/bronco/205/np1.htm which is a great article by the way. It looks like the bearing is held in by a snap ring.

Is it press fit on either the shaft or in the housing? The way I see it is I can take the cross member out if needed and just pull the worn bearing out and tap a new one in.

IIRC you should be able to pull the bearing out from the front. I don't think you even need to take the snap ring off...it only keeps the bearing from walking into the case, and gives the retainer a lip to hold it in place.

It may be a little stubborn, but if you can get under the snap ring on opposite sides and pry, it should walk out. It is not press fit.

I got it changed out it was pretty easy, done after 2.5 hrs. However it didn't solve the noise issue I have with the hubs locked in or in 4x4. I must have an out of balance driveshaft or the angle is wrong. I remember that the noise started when I lifted the truck and at exactly the same time I had my drive shaft rebuilt (slip joint worn out).

Are you sure the ujoints are in phase? In other words, was the slip joint put together so the joints line up correctly?

Yes they are in phase.

I am going to add a double cardan. Hopefully that should take care of it.

Do you have to change either the drive shaft yoke or the transfer case yoke. I was planning on just getting another u joint and the cv head collar piece. But I noticed jbg sells an np205 yoke for cvs or without.

Sorry, I can't answer that. I have never messed with the double cardan stuff.
