didn't 370/429 lima come with an SAE pattern on the block, or was that just an adapter to fit the Medium duty Fords?

The 77-82 351M/400 bellhousing will not work with an externally balanced 460 (1979+) unless you come up with a spacer plate.

what about the converter and the clutch??? this is what he wants to do...429 with Manual Tranny from Modified Engine. Modifed with 429 auto tranny... Can he use the parts that he has or does he have to go to something different.

Flywheel is different. If its a 11 or 12 in clutch with the same bolt pattern it would but IIRC the 429/460 is the same bolt pattern as the 300 6cyl

The 351m will work with the 429 auto tranny, but he will need a 351m/400 flexplate. Also, the centering hub on the front of the 429 converter might be too big for the pocket in the 351m crank. He would need to check that prior to assembly, as two different sizes were used. Also be sure to pull out the pilot bearing from the pocket in the end of the crank.
The 351m clutch may or may not work depending on what size flywheel is on the 351m, and which size flywheel he gets for the 429 (11" or 12"). Standard procedure is to use a 360 or 390 flywheel on an internally balanced 429/460. Those are available in either size, so chances are he can match one up to his clutch. Preferably use a 12" on the 429 if possible.

the flywheel is 14 and 1/4 , so he wont be able to use it... bare with me, I guess I am stupid or something because its slowly coming to me...... 429 to manual with 12 inch clutch disc and flywheel(flexplate) from 360 or 390....
351m to 429 auto....351m flywheel(flexplate) and converter....

Sorry to rip on you littlezell but tell your friend to do his own homework. There is enough information on the web to steer them to the right part selection to do it right that this question is almost a no brainer. Again SEARCH works wonders and answers alot of questions.

Sounds like you are on track. But pay no attention to the 14 1/4. The flywheels are the same outside diameter, but you need to pay attention to how they are drilled for the clutch pressure plate. That is dependant on the disk size (11 or 12 inch).
