I am going to charge my a/c on my Bronco. I hooked it up and pulled a 28 vacuum and it held for over an hour.
Problem is, the sticker for how much freon charge is required is missing or I cant find it.
Either way, I need to know what a normal charge amount is on a 1978 Bronco. I am only needing a ballpark idea.
I am going to covert it to Freeze 12. I have used it several times and had good results with it, plus I dont need to break down the whole system to clean it so I can change it over for 134. IMO, the Freeze 12 works better in the old style systems with the piston style compressor plus it is compatable with any old R12 system and can be mixed without any problems.
Can someone tell me what the factory charge sticker is so I get a close idea how much to have before I start punctuing cans?
Thanks

If I remember right it's 2lbs and some change, but I'd have to look at one of my trucks. Don't have anything here at the moment.

"Assuming" that my '79 F350 uses most (if not all) of the same components, the big decal on the front of the core-support states:

"Use 2 lbs R-12 if equipped with D8TH-19C600BA or D8TH-19C600CA"
OR:
"Use 2.75 lbs if equipped with D6TA-19C500CB or D7TA-19C600BA".

I've never actually been sure what they're referring to, unless it's different size condensers with different capacities. Maybe other components, but not sure.
Anybody know for sure what they're referring to?

My 78 Bronco has factory air with the York compressor.

I have the original sticker off mine, and it states
2.75 lbs of R12 as a "maximum" fill.

Paul, maybe some of the trucks used smaller condensers
because of the smaller truck cab areas? Or maybe if it
was equipped with a 6 cyl, the A/C system was smaller?

Yet another 78/79 mystery to be solved.....:)

Thanks. Hope to get the a/c fixed this weekend. I bought the Freeze 12 awhile back online. I dont have a EPA card, but they didnt ask for one.
Had it shipped to my job. No questions asked.
