Stock tank selector switch

How hard is it to wire heater and A/C instrumentation with the stock selector switch in it to a truck that didn't have it from the factory, or can it not be done?

I'm wondering if I can take a Tank selector switch from a 73-79 F150 that had dual tanks from the factory and put it in my F150 which didn't come with factory dual tanks, I know that these came in the A/C and Heater controls because my old 79 F150 had dual tanks and thats where the switch was.
