I know I should already know this, but you know what they say. I know everything, but I just can't remember it all at once. Here's the deal. I just bought another Bronco and it has the H2J rear axle code. I want to know where the code is for the front axle to see if this thing has factory L/S in the front. This truck was actually a pretty good one in it's day. Front and rear sway bars, quad shocks, tilt, AC, Cruise and it was/is a free wheelin with the XLT package. Too bad the body is so trashed. It's been a plow truck for a long time. It actually runs pretty well and holds good oil pressure. Somewhere along the line someone put a new gate on it and it is still in good shape.

The tag on the axle itself should have LS right after the gear ratio if it is a limited slip. If there is no tag try and find the BOM # on the driver side of the axle tube next to the center section.

H2J should be the complete axle code, for both front and rear.

Thanks Ranger and squid. So squid, you are saying that since the rear axle code says it is a 3.50 L/S w/tilt column, that the front axle is also a L/S?

No, the front is probably open, unless it specifically says it's a l/s.

the tag could be missing, or torn off
the f150 custom could be ordered with a limited slip in the front

I don't think they ever came with limited-slips on the front axle on the half-tonners.

Mine had the factory Trac-lock in the front as well as the rear. It had a seperate tag on the front cover designating LS.

Thanks. I read somewhere they didn't. ?>:<?

What axles, F/R? Ratio? Type of veh?

On my 78 bronco, stock d44 an 9" with a 4.10 ratio.

most of the f150's did not get the l/s opption but some did, it was big $$ to get back then

Note to users: Front axles on 4x4's are of the same ratio or one point off than the rear axles of which the code is on the Rating plate

ie:" Rear axle code 34 =Dana 60 3.54

That means the front axle is also 3.54 but in Dana 44F

ie: Rear axle = 4.11
Front axle = 4.10

Rear axle 4:10
Front axle 4.09

Rear axle 3:73
Front axle 3.73

Thanks million. I knew that from the factory the ratios would be the same. I just want to know if my new one or any of the other ones I have with factory L/S in the rear came with L/S in the front.
