Picked er up for $400 + a $65 tow to my house.
1985 F150, 302, AOD, 8.8 with 3.55's, Longbed, Dual tanks, cragars, I think it's been converted from EFI to carb, there is everything needed for the EFI system(TFI module and all). It's supposed to have a knock in the engine but I haven't started it because of the froze up carburetor. I had to replace the driverside tire, it was flat and when the wrecker picked the front end up it poked a hole in the tire.

I was thinking 86 was the first year for EFI 302 in the pickups, but I could be wrong.
JfB_93
02-01-2012, 09:45 PM
Yep I "thought" it was EFI, engine code F is Carb'd 302.

Well, got the carb rebuilt today, also painted a water pump pulley and installed a fan.
JfB_93
02-04-2012, 10:11 PM
Got the carb all bolted down, put a battery in, turned the key and nothing. Went around checking connections, stuck a socket, extension, and breaker bar on the crank bolt and went to turn it and found it seized up. I've tried everything to get it to unsieze except take the plugs out and try it with the starter, I think it's now a parts truck...

Pull all the plugs and put some marvel mystery oil in them. If the cylinders are froze that should free it up.

hahaha I was just going to say the exact same thing ! Give it alitte bit to do its thing then work the crank back n forth so you dont break a ring. It should unstick dont get discouraged. . Unless its a rod or something more serious. Check the oil for water etc and your plug tips

02-05-2012, 11:44 AM
It's supposed to have a knock in the engine(IDK if it's Piston Rod or Tappet knock), I've got a siphon pump and I'm fixing to do exactly that, I've checked the oil no water and doesn't smell like gas.

Spark plugs are even seized in the heads, I can't break em loose(broke the ceramic on #5 trying to get it loose), this whole engine is fawked. Not only that I fawked my psyatic nerve again, back to the doctor :(

I would if I could, don't have the money for another engine nor a hoist and a hoist doesn't roll on gravel or grass very good..

I've found a 351w short block with a set of heads that have been redone for $100, I've got everything but a flexplate for a windsor and AOD. I'm picking up a lift plate tomorrow and I'm going to redneck that damn thing out if I can't break it loose. I've got the passenger fender off and the hood and front grille piece's.
JfB_93
02-07-2012, 07:52 AM
Well, I got it broke loose there is still one little rough spot were it doesn't wanna completely turn over but I expect if I let it sit it'll break the rest of the way just fine. Now to see if I can't get this bitch started today..

I would make sure you can turn it all the way over by hand before you try to start it, otherwise you risk really breaking something.
Salt-Man
02-07-2012, 10:40 AM
keep lubeing it up n try n turn it with the starter. Just be easy until you know for sure its crap. I would definitly grab the 351w. I cant imagine that 302's flexplate bein different but I'll send you one with the carbs. Its off a c6 ? Also the 351m's is the same
JfB_93
02-07-2012, 02:34 PM
the 302 uses a 28oz imbalance Harmonic Balancer and Flywheel/Flexplate, the 351w uses a 31oz imbalance, I've heard some bad stuff about mixing the 2 but IDK. I picked up a lift plate in case I have to pull this engine. Thanks for the help guys!

Got her completely broke free by hand! Used a thick wall metal pipe and a breaker bar and socket, it turns over completely now so I think I'll put the fender back on and bolt the starter back in and crank it over w/out the plugs a couple times.

Shot the .40 cal Hi-Point as a celebration..
4:25pm: Gonna let her sit with the plugs out for a day or two now, just got through cranking it over with the starter for about 10 minutes(and I did take breaks so I didn't heat it up or hurt it) it's pumping out some gnarly looking shit, looks like a combo of the Copper Gasket goop and rust...
5:17pm: It's quit pumping the nasty rust shit out now, it's just a little liquid now(probably explains why the carb looked like it did), the hood was un bolted when we got it, dad thinks someone left the hood off along with the carb top and it got water down the intake and locked the engine up(could probably explain why the P.O. heard a knock in the engine).
I picked up the engine lift plate from Advance Auto, can't beat $10 with a lifetime warranty.
I think I'm going to pump some more MMO down the cylinders and let it sit tomorrow( I finally get to go test for my Driver's License) and when I come back I'll crank her over more, I gotta drain both gas tanks out even Dawn w/ bleach alternative won't get rid of the Turpentine smell, wound up having to wash my hands in Kerosene.. So now I reek of Kerosene instead of Turpentine.

Been doing some research in case I gotta pull the 302, if I go with a 351w I don't have to change anything, all I will need is a Flexplate from an '89 Crown Vic as that was the only year an AOD was put behind a 351w. If I stay 302 I won't need anything, just gotta find another engine, the guy with the 351w shortblock also has a 1996 302 Roller shortblock for the same price, I may go for that! Throw on a set of GT-40's and a carb'd intake and I'll be good to go.

For the 30 secs it ran it knocked, that could be from all of the nasty chit that was in the engine or from sitting for so long(I'm Hoping).

Well, decision was made today that this 302 is to be pulled, I pulled the valve covers off which, I must say, was a PIA cause of all the emission and TFI shit. The pushrods are beyond pitted, the rockers are and springs have scaly rust and the oil ports are all plugged up, dad get's paid later this month we're gonna get a hoist and rip er out of there.

Well the 85 didn't pan out, tag was too much money to bring back up to date, and the 302 knocked like crazy when I finally started it, it's been parted out so the reason I'm updating here is, I've put the rust free parts and the doors with crank windows on the bronco:
http://www.fordtruckclub.net/forum/photopost/files/1/2/4/9/100_0227.jpg
So, I've got rust free fenders, hood, dent free doors, windows that actually roll up and down, I've still gotta tweak the passenger door, next on the list is oil pan gasket replaced, u-joints in rear shaft replaced along with the CV Yoke, fluid drained out of the rearend, the front end is fine, rearend is black, while the engine is out it's going to get degreased and painted the engine bay on the bronco will be degreased.
I'm still on the hunt for some 31's for my Wagon Wheels off of the Blue 79, had a set lined up but the azz hat sold them out from under me..
JfB_93
03-31-2012, 01:19 PM
Also got a set of Hedmann Headers on the way to, so once the engine is out headers are going on>I.
