I think I remember seeing something on another site, I had it saved but my computer freaked out on me and I lost everything when I got it back from the shop

Which 6 speed do you have in mind?

I thought the diesel's had a different bell pattern than a 460. The same went for the mod motors.

the 5.4 came with one also in the superduties we have one at work I think its an 04 but not sure. I dont have a clue what the swap would take.

I don't believe the ZF's have a detachable bellhousing, so you would probably need to research adaptors.

Another option might be the NV-5600, but I am not sure if bellhousings will interchange with earlier NP transmissions.

The NV5600 bellhousing is the front cover of the transmission, and as far as i'm aware, nobody sells an adapter yet, although there were talks of it.
The ZF 6 speeds are integrated bellhousing, and you would need an adapter to put it behind anything besides a 4.6/5.4 or a diesel.

YEA...so u guys are pretty much tellin me what i thought already but was just double checking......Im now looking into going with an advance adapter unit ...its pricy butttttt I havent seen a better idea yet

Advance Adapters got my NV4500 behind my 7.3 IDI without a problem

Personally I don't think it is worth the trouble for the money involved in trying to adapt a transmission. Why not go with a ZF 5-speed?

IMHO, I think a 6-speed is too many gears unless you are planning on towing heavy with it.

4 Wheel & off road did an artical on it ( the 5600) a few years ago you used to be able to find the artical on their site.... im told for price reasons the ZF 5 is a better option but you can get a short throw for the 5600... dunno about the ZF

The ZF's had a longer run so availability is much better, even with the 6-speed versions.

The 5600 had a relatively short run and I have heard that parts are starting to get scarce already.

towing is the ONLY reason i want one.....3rd is over revved and 4th doesnt hav enough

but yea...as i stated above i think at some point *when money allows it * im just gonna go with an advance adapter overdrive unit
